Update: ‘Possible human bones’ found in basement of Chisholm home

7:15 p.m. update: Chisholm Police Chief James Vukad said possible human bones were found in the basement of a home Tuesday.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to process the scene.

“Initial observations indicate the bones are NOT believed to be of human origin; however, they will be submitted for further analysis to confirm their origin,” Vukad said in a statement.

The statement went on to acknowledge the 2003 disappearance of LeeAnna Warner.

“As our community is painfully aware, the disappearance of LeeAnna Warner remains an open case that has deeply affected Chisholm for more than two decades. We want to reassure the Warner family, and our entire community, that we remain committed to following every credible lead with care, diligence, and compassion. Our hope is that continued efforts and cooperation will one day bring long-awaited answers and a measure of peace to those who have carried this loss for so long,” Vukad said.


CHISHOLM, Min. – The Chisholm Police Department says they are conducting an “active investigation” within Chisholm.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and its Crime Scene Team are also assisting the Chisholm Police Department.

Chisholm Police Chief James Vukad says in a statement, “we are not able to release specific details in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigative process.”

He added there is no threat to the public. He continued, “we ask that community members avoid the area so investigators can work efficiently.”

The statement did not say where the investigation was taking place.

A Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension spokesperson tells FOX21, “The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the Chisolm Police Department with an investigation they are conducting. The Chisolm Police Department is the lead investigating agency.”
