New catering company serving up smiles alongside home cooked food
DULUTH, Minn. — A new catering company in Duluth is serving up smiles alongside a good meal.
“Cooking is my life. Cooking is like my breath, cooking is my heartbeat, cooking is the blood that flows through my veins,” Solomon Witherspoon, Unity Cooking Owner said.
Duluth Native Solomon Witherspoon has always used cooking to spread joy.
Now, following his fathers success in the restaurant world, he’s launching his own venture called Unity Catering.
“I want to be the Unity Catering that brings the Duluth community together. I want to feed the homeless. I want to live for a purpose. I want to be the purpose. This is a movement, and this is not a job at all. I want to invite everybody into the space right now and to make a difference, and that’s what I’m going to do,” Witherspoon said.
The goal isn’t to just serve up food, Witherspoon hopes to get the youth involved with cooking and entrepreneurship.
“I want to educate, I want to motivate, I want to teach. I want to show them the basic skills of life right now and let them know right now that your dreams can become your reality right now. And everybody loves food,” Witherspoon said.
Unity Catering can accommodate various events, from weddings to corporate functions.
“Whether you want a vegan plate, whether you want some pasta, whether you want some soup, whether you want you know, some cheese and crackers. I can deliver everything and with a humble heart,” Witherspoon said.
Witherspoon says food is what bonds people together and Unity Catering is a way to spread love in Northland.
“I’ve been so blessed to be around people that cook from a different place, from their heart. You know, when they cook, it’s almost like they’re giving you their soul. Like, here’s a piece of me, here’s a part of me,” Witherspoon said.
From helping young entrepreneurs and even feeding the homeless, Unity Catering aims to make a difference through a home cooked meal
