UPDATE: The owner of Lutsen Lodge has been charged with arson in connection with the 2024 fire.

According to court documents, Bryce James Campbell, 41, is accused of intentionally starting the fire and filing a fraudulent insurance claim.

Campbell is being charged with three counts of first-degree arson and one count of insurance fraud.

The official announcement is expected this afternoon.


LUTSEN, Min & ST. PAUL, Min. – The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and State Fire Marshal divisions, along with the Cook County Attorney’s Office and other partner agencies, will announce an arrest and charges in the Lutsen Resort Lodge fire investigation.

The announcement is expected for the afternoon of Thursday, December 4, 2025.

The main building of the northern Minnesota resort burned down on Feb. 6, 2024. Local, state and federal officials have been working diligently since to find out what happened.
