Father tells law enforcement his son shot him in the head
FAYAL TOWNSHIP, Min. – Ryan James Moller, 36 of Eveleth, is accused of shooting his own father in the head in an attempt to kill him.
Court documents say on the afternoon of December 2, Moller called for an ambulance to come to a residence in Fayal Township because of “a bullet hole through the head.”
Law enforcement said they “observed a large pool of blood in the driveway” when they arrived. The blood lead a trail to the residence.
Moller allegedly told law enforcement his father was in the home with a gunshot wound to his head.
When law enforcement found his father, he said his son had shot him.
Moller was arrested and then taken to the hospital “to be medically cleared for jail.” In the hospital Moller allegedly told medical staff he shot his dad and he does not regret the shooting.
Court documents list mental health concerns for Moller. Documents state, “It appears [Moller] is currently struggling with his mental health and is untreated.” The documents added family had been concerned about his mental health over the past few weeks.
The Eveleth Police Department say as of two days following the shooting, “the victim is currently in stable condition and doing well.”
Moller appeared in court on December 5, 2025 for his first appearance.
His next scheduled appearance is December 8 for his initial appearance.
Moller is charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree and Assault in the Second Degree.
