Union Gospel Mission unveils new resting area for community

DULUTH, Minn.– Union Gospel Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to helping out the homeless community has unveiled a new space for anyone to take advantage of.

The ‘Nest’ resting area is in response to the mission’s goal to accommodate their growing population.

Union Gospel Mission officials said, they have 75 seats in their dining facility. But they have been seeing up to 300 guests.

And with the decision to build the nest, they’re saying, it’s about the little things.

“With the efforts of all of our neighbors, we came up with kind of a temporary solution on how we can offer folks a more dignified way to find space next to the mission, rather than sitting on a sidewalk or on a day like today, a snowbank. We’re giving them the opportunity to have some place safe to land,” said Katie Hagglund, Executive Director, Union Gospel Mission.

Hagglund went on to say that The Nest will serve as a temporary fix to their overcrowded facility, as they begin to navigate relocation plans.
