Twin Ports Rapid Response takes action against potential ICE raids
DULUTH, Minn.– A Twin Ports activist group is raising the alarm about what they call an increase of attacks against immigrants by ICE.
Twin Ports Rapid Response held a community meeting to educate people on their constitutional rights when it comes to observing and reacting to ICE raids.
One of the strategies to sound the alarm of an ICE raid involves whistle codes.
People are told to blow short bursts when ICE is nearby, and long bursts when an ICE raid escalates.
Minnesota Representative Liish Kozlowski said they support the grassroots effort.
“This group is all work in action, and they are just here to let folks know that they’re here. They’ve actually been taking phone call tips into the hotline, helping our immigrants and migrant community, as well as just fielding phone calls from community members who are really terrorized,” said Representative Liish Kozlowski, (DFL) District 8B.
Kozlowski said activist groups against ICE have formed beyond the Twin Ports.
“Statewide, over 90 organizations and coalition members are doing this across the state and by region and here locally. Everybody who’s been a part of the Twin Ports Rapid Response has gone through some kind of what we call it, civil initiative training, legal observing, so that they know what to look for that they know how to document and verify activity,” said Kozlowski.
Twin Ports Rapid Response said it will document and expose what they call “violent and unconstitutional acts” by ICE.
