Local auto expert shares tips for holiday driving

DULUTH, Minn. — Automotive experts are encouraging people to keep an eye on their cars as the holiday travelling season approaches.

Aside from the usual advice of keeping your gas tank filled and keeping air in your tires, experts say there are some other aspects of your vehicle you should keep an eye on to stay safe on the wintery roads.

“It comes down to two items, and that’s; what is the condition of those rear tires? The front tires do most of the work on a lot of our modern cars, and it’s really easy, even if it’s an all-wheel drive (car), to forget about the ones behind you too,” said Nick Beck, an owner and operator of ALLSTAR Service & Accessories, an auto service shop in Duluth.

“Number two is alignments. You got one tire going this way and one going that way, it really makes for an unstable situation in the back end of that car.”

Beck also said that, if you’re ever truly concerned about your winter driving abilities, head to a local parking lot and practice in a safe environment.
