Marshall Holiday Ski Camp kicks off 20th year of teaching young skiers
DULUTH, Minn. — The Marshall Holiday Ski Camp kicked off on Friday, inviting young skiers to test their skills for its 20th year.
The camp, for kids ages 5 to 12, is run by the Duluth Marshall Nordic Ski Team coaching staff and team members.
The three day camp focuses on teaching new skiers the basics such as proper techniques and even how to get back up when you fall down.
The camp also welcomed kids with some Nordic ski experience, as they can further develop their skills and work with the schools ski team.
“It’s the 20th year of running the camp. So for 20 years, 60 to 40 kids a year have learned how to ski here, have had a positive experience with it. And now maybe some of those folks are doing the Birkie, or maybe they’re skiing out at their local trails, or, you know, getting outside. So it feels really good,” Dave Johnson, Marshall Nordic Ski Coach said.
The camp also serves as a fundraiser for the Marshall ski teams, with the funds going towards camps, equipment and other expenses.
