The City of Hermantown celebrates its 50th birthday

HERMANTOWN, Minn. — People braved the cold at Fichtner Park to celebrate the city of Hermantown’s 50th birthday.

The area started with just a few homesteaders, before the city was established back in 1975. Since then, it has continued to grow to just over 10,000 residents. Everyone stood around fires, made s’mores, and ate hot dogs while taking in the city’s fireworks show, in celebration of the city’s great milestone.

“We thought we had a pretty good turnout, given the cold weather,” said John Mulder, city administrator of Hermantown.

The celebration continues at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the North Star Ford Arena will be held along with the first boys and girls hockey games.
