After Strong Start to Season, Superior Battling A New Opponent in Injuries
Superior is currently 9-2 on the season.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- The Superior boys basketball team went a whole month without a loss to begin the season.
But since then, the injury bug has bit the team as all-time scoring leader Calvin Anderson and center Drew Eisel are sidelined.
Anderson is nursing a leg injury and Eisel treating a hand injury.
The Spartans have lost their last two games as a result.
But, the team isn’t discouraged. Head Coach Kory Deadrick is confident that the players stepping in Anderson’s and Eisel’s absence will turn things around.
“We’re as deep we’ve been, it’s just a matter of execution a little bit and guys stepping up in roles. It’s going to take us more than a week to figure that out. With losing Cal kind of over that christmas break time. I like what I see and they’re coming here everyday. We’re working hard, we’re competing. We’re trying to get up to speed as quickly as we can and we have a lot of guys in new spots,” said Deadrick.
One of the guys stepping into a bigger role is guard Landon Anrig.
“It’s definitely seeing a lot of the majority of our shooting and scoring being gone. Kind of being the next guy up in the points per game column. I was kind of the next guy up there. Being around everybody for all four years definitely being the guy to kind of want to step up into that role,” said Anrig.
Anrig and Superior will next host Hibbing on Thursday night at 7:15 pm.
