Plans for new fire hall underway
SUPERIOR, Wis. — The Superior city council turned its attention to plans for a new North End fire hall in Superior.
Fire Chief Camron Vollrecht presented the design cost review for the new North End fire hall to be located on Johnson Avenue between 7th and 8th street. City officials say the current station, built in the early 1980s, no longer meets modern needs. The project is estimated to cost around $10 million, which remains on budget, with some grant support expected. Plans include solar panels, energy-efficient features, and a community gathering space.
“Replacement really is the most affordable option, especially since the success we’ve seen with the main fire headquarters, putting the solar panels on, bringing in electric rigs, we’ve really improved the efficiency and the affordability of our fire department,” said Jim Paine, Mayor of the City of Superior. “We’re making public safety more effective, but also more affordable.”
City officials say that if everything stays on track, the city will see a new fire hall in about a year.
