INTERNATIONL FALLS, Min. – Voyageurs National Park has issued a “Snowmobile Trail Hazard Alert”.

The alert issued on January 6, 2026 said, “Snowmobile riders please be aware. An “ice heave” is rapidly growing and changing on the Green Trail near Sphunge Island on Kabetogama Lake.”

It added, “In some areas the ice heave has grown over four feet high. This section of the trail system is unsafe for travel at this time.”

The alert concluded with, “Remember to always adjust your traveling speeds and slow down when visibility is low. We will share our regular weekly trail report and additional updates later this week. Thank you for your caution and cooperation!”
