Trina Swanson announces campaign for congress
DULUTH, Minn. — Trina Swanson has announced her campaign for congress in northern Minnesota.
The Hermantown native has previously held senior leadership roles in U. S. Citizenship and Immigration services.
Swanson says her campaign will focus on affordable healthcar,e including rural access, protecting working families, and education-to-career pathways.
“I’m running because too many people here feel unheard and left behind,” said Trina Swanson. “Work should buy you a life with dignity. You shouldn’t go bankrupt if you get sick. You shouldn’t have to drive hours to get care or to have a baby. And you deserve a representative who actually shows up.”
Swanson grew up working class and says she has respect for the northern and central Minnesota workforce, including Iron Range communities.
“Mining built this region. Union jobs built the middle class here,” she said. “People who do this work deserve respect, not lectures. We can protect good jobs and protect our land and water at the same time — if we’re serious about it.”
Swanson is running as a Congressional District 8 Candidate, joining the others running against incumbent Pete Stauber.
A campaign kickoff will be held at Ivy Black Weddings & Events in Saginaw next Monday at 5 p.m.
