UMD Men’s Basketball Looks to Remain at Top of Standings with Bouts vs. Sioux Falls & Southwest
UMD tips off with Sioux Falls at 5:30 on Friday and 3:30 on Saturday against Southwest.
DULUTH, Minn.- Like the women’s team, the UMD men’s squad is also currently sitting at the top of the NSIC North Division.
This weekend, they’ll battle two teams that are in quite different positions.
Sioux Falls is fighting in the middle of the pack of the Southern division and Southwest Minnesota State is in a three-way tie for first.
Head Coach Justin Wieck gave props to his opponent on Friday, crediting their recent four-game win streak.
He says both games this weekend will need to be a complete effort on each side.
“For us, it’s about trying to do what we do on the defensive end. Keep on finding our rhythm on the offensive end. Saturday, Southwest has always been one of the most physical and toughest teams to score on in our league. We played well against them last year. We struggled against them at different times over the last couple of years. But, both of these teams will be a challenge,” said Wieck.
“It will be two big games. Sioux Falls specifically has a big guy I get to go against. Play some good guards with control and dictate what they do,” added forward Noah Paulson.
