ST. CROIX, Virgin Islands (KVRR) – A Detroit Lakes woman died after she was attacked by a shark in the Virgin Islands.

According to the Virgin Islands Police Dept., 56 year-old Arlene Lillis lost an arm in the attack before she died from her injuries.

The attack happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Dorsch Beach, a popular recreation area in St. Croix.

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
