Tensions between some Minnesotans and the way ICE is using force in the state continue to be very raw for locals and in cities across the country.

Over the weekend, people gathered in Duluth to protests ICE.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security said over the weekend it has arrested hundreds of illegal aliens in Minnesota since the department sent more than 2,000 ICE agents to the state.

DHS said the people arrested include child rapists and 10 murderers.  And so far, at least 1,500 illegal aliens have been arrested by ICE during “Operation Metro Surge” in Minnesota.

Statement from ICE Director Todd Lyons:

“Regardless of staged political theatrics, ICE is going to continue to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens in Minnesota and elsewhere. Some of these criminal aliens have had final orders of removal for 30 years, but they’ve been free to terrorize Minnesotans. ICE’s arrests prevent recidivism and make communities safer, but it feels like local politicians want to ignore that part and drum up discontent rather than protect their own constituents.”

Meanwhile, on Jan. 8, DHS Asst. Sec. Tricia McLaughlin released a statement on ICE in Minnesota:

“In the face of violent attacks, ICE law enforcement arrested pedophiles, rapists, and drug traffickers in Minneapolis yesterday. Every single day our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from American communities. We will not let rioters slow us down from making Minnesota safe again—something Governor Walz and Mayor Frey REFUSED to do.”
