Man arrested after fatal snowmobile crash in Iron County
IRON COUNTY, Mich. — A man is dead and another man is in custody after a crash involving two snowmobiles in the Town of Oma, Michigan.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 8:15 p.m. Friday on Trail 17, about one mile north of County Highway G.
When deputies arrived, they found a 52-year-old male snowmobile driver dead.
A 20-year-old male driver of the other snowmobile was arrested for Operating a Snowmobile While Under the Influence of an Intoxicant, and Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle.
Authorities said the two men were traveling together when the suspect slammed into the back of the victim’s snowmobile that had “apparently stopped in the trail,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The news release did not include names of those involved.
FOX 21 has requested the name of the suspect so we can follow up on formal charges.
