Partnership between Brule River Farm and Superior School District going strong
BRULE, Wis. — Even though it’s winter, Brule River Farm and the Superior School District are continuing their partnership to serve up healthy meals to students.
Brule River Farm has been selling produce to the district for the past three years, ranging from onions, watermelon, potatoes and more.
The farm delivers produce to the district every week throughout the school year.
Even when it’s not growing season, the farm pulls from storage to continue the partnership during the cold months.
“We have storage areas like this that we keep about 40 degrees. And so we can do onions, squash and potatoes all year round,” David Dumke with Brule River Farm said.
The owners of the farm are happy to supply healthy food to the cafeterias that serve hundreds of students.
“I think having stuff local is really important. And I think having things that are garden grown, that taste really good, and are chemical free, all those things are really important, I think to us and hopefully to the kids,” Dumke said.
Brule River Farm is best known for selling fresh produce at farmers markets in Superior, those markets run from May to October.
