#7 UMD Men’s Hockey Begins Tough Stretch with Defending National Champions in Town
The Bulldogs were the last team to hand the Broncos a loss this season.
DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD men’s hockey team is entering an important stretch of their schedule.
Three straight weeks of series against three teams in the top 10.
First up just so happens to be the defending national champions, Western Michigan.
The Bulldogs and Broncos just faced off not too long ago in early December. UMD went on to take game one 4 to 1 and then Western Michigan returned the favor on Saturday, 3 to 2.
Head Coach Scott Sandelin took a look back at that series and detailed what makes the Broncos such a tough battle.
“They’re good from the net out. They’re missing a couple of key defensemen. Obviously, one wasn’t playing when we were playing them earlier, they lost another one. But their forward group they play with pace, great in transition, hard at the net, they make it tough getting through the neutral zone. But they pressure, they don’t give you a lot of room and they’re a confident group,” said Sandelin.
The Bulldogs were the last team to hand the Broncos a loss this season. They’ll try to snap Western’s seven-game winning streak on Friday at 7:07 pm.
