Pipe burst leaves Lakeside Early Learning with thousands of dollars in damage
DULUTH, Minn.– On Sunday afternoon, the extreme cold caused a pipe burst that has wrecked half of Lakeside Early Learning Center.
We’re told, luckily no children or staff were harmed while this occured.
However, the incident has left the daycare with at least $25,000 in damage so far.
The executive director said, thousands of gallons of water soaked through all three floors of the building.
Numerous classrooms, as well as their library was damaged.
Staff members said, they’re working tirelessly to salvage what they can, and keep track of what they need to replace.
“We’re kind of looking at it in two phases, so we have the immediate needs of getting our open end of the building operating as soon as possible. So those expenses will include payroll that is due next week, which is about $20,000 of course, we don’t want to charge families tuition during this time when they’re seeking alternative care. And then also supplies,” said Kaylee Spencer, Executive Director, Lakeside Early Learning.
Spencer said, the daycare will be closed for the rest of the week, as they try to navigate this challenge.
Lakeside Early Learning is projected to open next week, if all goes according to plan.
Some classrooms may be re-located for the time being in other parts of the building.
A gofundme has been set up to help replace learning materials and student property.
