Owner of Lutsen Lodge suing insurance company for non-payment
DULUTH, Minn – North Shore Resort Company, the company that owns Lutsen Lodge, is suing Owners Insurance Company for not paying insurance claims from the fire that destroyed the historic resort.
The suit, filed in federal court on January 23, 2026 says, “Plaintiff timely made a claim to Defendant for coverage under the Policy’s Building, Personal Property, and Business Income (And Extra Expense) coverage forms, submitted satisfactory proof of loss, and complied with all other requirements of the Policy and conditions precedent to coverage.” According to the lawsuit on January 23, 2026, the same day the lawsuit was filed, “Defendant formally denied liability for Plaintiff’s claim, thereby breaching the parties’ insurance contract.”
The owner of the Lutsen Lodge, Bryce Campbell, is facing four charges related to his alleged arson of the lodge. One of those charges is Insurance Fraud. Campbell is out on bail and is next slated to be back in state court for his criminal charges on March 9, 2026.
The federal court issued notice to Owners Insurance Company that they must respond to the lawsuit within 21-days of the lawsuit being filed.
The fire happened on February 6, 2024.
