UMD Baseball Entering New Season with Plenty of Experience

The Bulldogs are coming off a near .500 campaign by going 26-27 in 2025.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD baseball team is about three weeks out from opening day.

The Bulldogs are coming off a near .500 campaign by going 26-27 in 2025.

There hasn’t been many name tags passed out in the first few practices as UMD is set to return seven out of their nine players in the starting lineup.

That paired with a much improved pitching staff has head coach Bob Rients excited but he knows they still have to build off of some of the good things they established last year.

“We had some come from behind wins, I think that shows character. The guys sticking with it, that has to ring true here at the first half of the year here yet. We have to throw more strikes. We have to be more competitive in the zone from the pitching staff standpoint. We continually give up too many free bases and so if we can do a much better job of that on the mound. I really think that it has the opportunity to be a special season for this group here this spring,” said Rients.

“We’ve realized, hey we can go be .500. So now that we know that, we just have to keep playing our game, keep doing what we’re doing, get better everyday. The wins will come with that,” added infielder and outfielder Troy Lynch.

UMD’s first game is February 20th against Augustana in Missouri. First home contest is April 3rd versus Crookston.
