Lake Superior Ice Festival kicks off for weekend of fun

Ice Fest PicSUPERIOR, Wis. — The Lake Superior Ice Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

From hockey to disc golf, a tubing hill, arts, crafts, food trucks and so much more – there is something for everyone at this fun family friendly event.

It’s not all out in the cold either.

There is an escape room, bonfires, warming tents, and other indoor festivities as well.

“It just brings the community together everybody. You know, it’s a lot of activities for kids and adults, and it just, you know, brings that sense of community,” Ryan Wintlend, Superintendent for Parks, Rec and Forestry said.

Now that the cold snap is ending, this year’s Ice Festival came at the perfect time for people to shake off their cabin fever.

“It’s been 20 below, it seems like, for a couple weeks now, and tomorrows supposed to hit in the 20’s, so I’m thinking it’s going to be a great turnout,” Wintlend said.

They kicked off the fun today with a large bonfire from donated Christmas trees.

They’ll wrap up about 8 p.m. Friday night, and open back up from 9 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m.
