Northern Star: Bennett Scissons

Scissons has scored 12 goals this season with the Hilltoppers.

DULUTH, Minn.- The Duluth Marshall Boys hockey team has proven that they’re a top contender for the section 7AA title this year.

One of the pieces to the Hilltoppers success is senior forward Bennett Scissons.

“He’s definitely one of the leaders on this team. One of the guys that gets everyone ready to go. He just surpassed 100 points in his career which is a huge accomplishment for a high school hockey player and he just continues to be a guy that we can count on that’s going to show up on the score sheet just about every night,” said Hilltoppers head coach Shawn Bartlette.

Scissons has been in the score sheet a lot this season, knocking down 12 goals and recording 14 assists in his senior campaign with the Hilltoppers.

But the secret to his success is knowledge of the game.

“I think just my hockey IQ, finding the right areas, doing the simple things right. It’s always been a two way game for me, offense and defense, so I just try to play the game the right way. Try to score on the chances and try to set up my teammates,” said Scissons. ” He’s an extremely creative player that has a high hockey IQ, has a great skill set and it’s a recipe for a pretty good hockey player,” said Bartlette.

Having high knowledge of the game of hockey comes from 23’s ambition to expand his craft.

“He’s driven to be better, to get better, and he definitely puts in the time and the effort needed to grow not only as a student of the game but as a player as well,” said Bartlette.

When Scissons is putting together the bigger picture, he understands that there are multiple pieces to the puzzle.

“Everyone has little things that they want to work on and so, when you’re coming to practice every day wanting to work on those things and focusing on doing those things right, it kind of just becomes pieces of your game,” said Scissons.
