#10 UMD Women’s Hockey to Close Out Regular Season Home Slate Against St. Thomas
UMD is 15-2-1 all-time against St. Thomas.
DULUTH, Minn.- Friday will mark the beginning of the final regular season home series for the UMD women’s hockey team.
The Bulldogs will take on the Tommies of St. Thomas for the 2nd time in the 2025-2026 season.
Back in November, UMD picked up the sweep in St. Paul, outscoring St. Thomas, 7 to 3.
These two teams might see each other again in two weeks as UMD is currently 4th in the WCHA and St. Thomas is 6th with a chance to move up to 5th.
Head Coach Laura Schuler details her thought process when facing a team a 2nd time.
“You always try to have a gameplan in place. Obviously, once you’ve played a team, you can look at where were the areas where we were just missing a little and trying to continue to highlight those areas so that you can be better 2nd time around. Obviously, things always change, teams continue to grow and get better and better from a structural standpoint. I always think teams are better 2nd half of the season compared to first half of the season,” said Schuler.
Back in the series in November, UMD goaltender Eve Gascon had 68 saves against the Tommies. She said St. Thomas’ playing style is something her and her teammates get up for.
“It’s a team that works hard every shift, every period. So, it’s going to be a huge weekend for us. We have to bring the effort and to trust ourselves and play with swagger too. They’re a really good team. We have to bring our best game to beat them. So I think it’s fun because that’s the game we like too. So, we’re ready but it’s going to be good games,” added Gascon.
UMD is 15-2-1 all-time against St. Thomas. They’ll go for win number 16 Friday at 6:02 PM.
