Man accused of breaking into apartment through window and sexually assaulting resident
DULUTH, Minn. – A man is accused of breaking into an apartment through a window and later sexually assaulting a person inside.
Court documents accuse Shawn Jacob Neveaux and another unknown male of climbing through a window at the Garfield Square Apartments. That’s near the intersection of Piedmont Avenue, Garfield Avenue, and W. Superior Street. It allegedly happened around 2:00 a.m. on February 6, 2026. Security video shows the unknown male leaving the apartment about half an hour later. Neveaux stayed in the apartment.
Court documents say the resident of the apartment returned home around 3:00 a.m. – about one hour after the break-in. The victim said when they entered their apartment, they discovered Neveaux in their closet going through their clothes. The victim said Neveaux appeared to be intoxicated, as they could not understand many of the words Neveaux said to them.
The charging documents continued alleging Neveaux told the victim he was going to take some of their possessions and leave $100 in return. The victim did not agree.
Neveaux is accused of then sexually assaulting the victim. Neveaux is facing felony Criminal Sexual Conduct and Burglary charges. He is scheduled to be in court again on March 10, 2026.
Neveaux was on the apartment complex’s “do not allow” list after a previous alleged attempted theft.
