Another scuffle at UMD Turning Point USA table leads to police call
DULUTH, Minn. — Two people have been ticketed for an incident that happened at a Turning Point USA table in the University of Minnesota – Duluth Kirby Student Union.
On January 29, 2026, UMD police reports say student Lars Morris called one of the people sitting at the Turning Point USA table a “fascist”. Morris then allegedly threw the contents of a bottle at the person and attempted to grab the hat off the person. Morris failed to grab the hat and threw the bottle at the victim. The victim then shoved Morris to put distance between the two.
Another member of Turning Point USA then intervened, separating the two further. The group then exchanged words for about one minute, not being physical. Next, Morris spat on the face of the person separating the two. Morris then left the area, while walking away, he was giving the middle finger to the two people.
Police officers responding said, “I noticed [victim’s] shirt was still very wet and he told me the liquid was sticky.” The officer wrote that the water bottle left at the table was black and had a handwritten label taped to the bottle that read “Anti Fascist Serum”.
A witness told police Morris sprayed the victim “hard” with the liquid from the bottle.
Video of the incident was shared on the social media platform Yik Yak. Police determined Roxanne “Zero” McCoy recorded the video and came to the area with Morris.
The officer said they would be emailing Morris “a citation for 5th Degree assault and Disorderly conduct.”
The report said, “Lars and Zero worked together during the disruption. Lars was the actor, and Zero recorded the disorderly conduct that was later displayed on social media.” The social media title was, “Ice hat guy got what was coming for him.” McCoy was cited for disorderly conduct.
Officers questioned Morris two days after the incident. Police reports say Morris wanted to confront “The ICE Hat Guy” by debating him. Morris said he had heard the victim and other members of Turning Point USA talking on campus and disagreed with what they were saying. The water bottle Morris brought with him was filled with Hi-C drink. He said he did write the words “Anti Fascist Serum” on the bottle. Morris said he did this to be funny and was going to tell the victim to take a drink before debating him.
Police say Morris told them he was standing in line waiting for his turn to speak with the victim. Morris was waiting because the victim was engaged in a conversation with somebody else. Morris said he began to “get frustrated and grew angry because he didn’t like what was being said”. Morris said the people talking used slurs and the word “illegals”.
Morris said, then somebody walked by and shouted, “Is that an ICE hat? You’re a piece of [expletive]!” Morris then threw the drink at the victim. He then told the Turning Point USA members, “The school shouldn’t be a conduit for them to say these really awful things.”
Morris told police McCoy was there to record the events in case something happened. They also posted the video to the social media platform FIZZ.
Morris repeated to the police that he went to the table to debate the victim and not assault him.
UMD Chief Marketing and Public Relations Officer Lynne Williams told FOX 21 in response to this and past Turning Point USA incidents, “The safety of our campus community is a top priority. The University of Minnesota Duluth stands firmly against acts of violence, intimidation, harassment, discrimination, or other hostile actions. Respectful disagreement and debate are welcome at UMD. We are firmly committed to the rights of students, faculty, and staff to freely express their views through open and respectful dialogue, regardless of viewpoint.”
PAST INCIDENT:
A previous incident happened with a Turning Point USA table on the UMD Campus on April 7, 2025. Clifford “Tom” Julstrom allegedly threatened members of Turning Point USA tabling, saying, “I’ll line all you [expletive] against a wall and shoot you.” This incident also happened in the Kirby Student Union. In the past, Julstrom had reportedly told the victim that he knew where the victim lived. Julstrom is awaiting trial for Reckless Disregard and 5th Degree Assault. They are expected to be back in court in early July. The reason for the delay is that a key witness in the case is on military leave and unable to testify until then. The victim in the 2025 incident has since transferred from UMD.
