A Sunny and Warm Friday the 13th
Fear of Friday the 13th, known as paraskevidekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia, is a widespread superstition. However, I don’t think it has any connection to weather. At least, I hope not.
After we all fought through windchills of -50, just a few weeks ago, the weather has been absolutely terrific, and easy, this week. I’ve only had to wear 3 layers of clothes, instead of 5 or 6. And, my vehicles actually start each morning, without a jumpbox, and multiple containers of fuel line antifreeze. So, the fact that we will hit highs of about 40 degrees from today thru next Monday, is a real treat! A gigantic area of high pressure will control our weather for the next four days. Sunshine all day, clear skies at night, and highs around 40 each day, well above the normal high of 24 degrees. Winter isn’t over yet, but there’s nothing wrong with enjoying this mid-February thaw.
Because, we have two very good chances for snow next week, on Wednesday, and Friday. The first system will come in from the northwest, a typical clipper system, and won’t have a whole lot of moisture with it. But, the second (and bigger) system will come in from the southwest (Colorado), and will likely pack a bigger punch. It’s too early to predict how much snow we may get, from each event. But, at this point, the 2nd one holds more potential. We are about 20″ below where we should be for the season, so I say, “bring it on!” We really haven’t had a big snowfall in the Twin Ports this winter (so far), so I would enjoy getting one, next week. Stay tuned, the next few days. We will know a lot more, as we get past the weekend.
By the way….did I mention that tomorrow is Friday the 13th? (See the first sentence of this blog)
