Hundreds take the plunge in Duluth for Special Olympics Minnesota

DULUTH, Minn. — Hundreds of people dug out their swimsuits for the annual Duluth Polar Plunge.

The sun was out for the event Sunday, but the water remained freezing at the end of Park Point for the big plunge into the bay.

Everybody who took the frigid dip raised money for Special Olympics Minnesota.

Some people have done it year after year.

The Polar Plunge is organized by the Duluth Police Department.

Members of the St. Louis County Rescue Squad always get in their wet suits to make sure all the plungers safely make it out of the water.

“The first time I did it, I jumped in the water, I just started breaking out. But it felt kind of good to know I did it for a good cause.” Says, 3rd time plunger Carina LeGarrie.

Everyone who jumped are already excited for next year.
