Northern Star: Noah Kubicek
At the team's last three meets, Kubicek has placed first for both the 200 and 400 meter dash.
DULUTH, Minn.- St. Scholastica senior sprinter Noah Kubicek is off and running in his final year as a Saint. Literally.
At the team’s last three meets, Kubicek has placed first for both the 200 and 400 meter dash.
“Basically just execution at this point. I’m pretty confident that I’ve put in the work throughout the last four years and that’s transitioned into my experience racing this year,” said Kubicek.
Taking the next step on the track isn’t the only thing Kubicek has flourished in within the past year.
“That confidence in his abilities has turned him into an amazing leader as well. I mean he’s always been a great leader but there’s been other good leaders on the team. Now, this year it’s really been kind of his time to step into that role,” said associate head coach Jeff Cottrell.
Which has been a win-win all-around.
“I just think the ability to connect with his teammates. His ability to share his love with the sport and how to do the little things right are what allows him to be in a place to run for some conference championships in the next couple weeks here,” added Cottrell.
He may have a lot of individual accolades but that’s not a priority for him.
“It’s cool to continue to break a school record but when we have countless school records going down. It’s not just me, it’s the whole program that’s succeeding and getting better. It says a lot about the coaches and this athletic community as a whole and not just myself individually,” said Kubicek.
Kubicek and the rest of the Saints are next in action on Friday at the MIAC Indoor Championships at Carleton College.
