Kids Boost Reading Confidence with Reptile Companions

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Young readers met some new reptile friends at the Superior Public Library.

Each kid had the opportunity to spend ten minutes reading aloud to a special reptile guest brought by a local reptile expert. Pepe the Bearded Dragon and Echo the Crested Gecko listened to a variety of books read by the kids. From tortoises to snakes, the event helps children improve their reading skills and learn about their reptile friends.

“Animals are a really safe and kind of curiosity-driven way for kids to explore reading without that really intense pressure feeling like people are looking at them,” said Sarah Glesner, Owner and educator for Sarah’s Serpentarium.

Reptile readings take place twice a month for people who want to sign their kids up.
