Sexual Assault investigation between students at Bay View Elementary in Proctor

PROCTOR, Minn. – Proctor Public Schools Superintendent Tim Rohweder has sent a note to parents about a sexual assault investigation at Bay View Elementary School.

Rohweder’s message:

As Superintendent of Proctor Public Schools, I want to inform our Bay View Elementary families of a serious matter that has been brought to our attention. The district has been made aware of a complaint that was delivered to the Proctor Police Department regarding an alleged sexual assault involving a student victim and a student perpetrator at Bay View Elementary School. First and foremost, our concern is for the safety and well-being of all students. Situations of this nature are deeply troubling, and we understand the concern this information may cause for families. Please know that we take all reports involving student safety extremely seriously. We are working closely and cooperatively with the Proctor Police Department as they investigate this matter. At this time, the report remains under investigation, and we are committed to supporting law enforcement as they determine the validity and scope of the complaint. In addition, the district is following all required policies and procedures to ensure that appropriate steps are taken to protect students while the investigation is ongoing. Because this involves minors and an active investigation, we are limited in the details we can share. We are also obligated to protect the privacy rights of the students involved and their families. If your child has information related to this matter or if you have concerns about your child’s well-being, I encourage you to contact school administration directly. Counseling and support services are available for any student who may need them. The safety of our students is our highest priority. We will continue to communicate with families as appropriate and as we are able, in coordination with law enforcement.
