UW-Superior Women’s Hoops to Face Concordia-Moorhead in First Round of NCAA Tournament
UWS is in search of their first national tournament win.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- For the second straight season, the UW-Superior women’s basketball team is in the National Tournament.
On Saturday, the Yellowjackets claimed their 5th UMAC postseason title with a win over North Central.
On Monday, they learned they will be heading to Moorhead to face the regional-host Cobbers of Concordia-Moorhead in the first round of the tourney.
Overall, the Yellowjackets have made it to the big dance five times but this will be the first under head coach Eveline Parsons.
“You can’t always predict how things are going to turn out. I just think for them to have the opportunity to be here now shows that if we can focus on one moment at a time. They kind of came up with a slogan at the beginning of the year or intention to finish today before tomorrow. I just think doing that day in and day out since October to now, that’s the reason we’re here,” said Parsons.
All-time, UWS is a perfect 3-0 against Concordia, all of which were in non-conference games previously.
“We just try to come into every game with a mentality that we’re not going to take a back seat to anybody. We may be the underdog, but we go in and just prepare the same way regardless of who we would be playing. Whether we’re supposed to win or not, just keeping that mentality and just being ready to compete and I think our team will do that,” added Parsons.
“Just sharing the ball and executing our defensive plan, especially our defensive plan. Having to stop some really strong scorers, that’s going to be a big thing for us,” said senior guard MyKenzie Leccia.
UWS is in search of their first national tournament win. They’ll look to make that happen Friday at 8 PM at Memorial Auditorium in Moorhead.
