Grand Rapids Sees Title Hopes End in Overtime Thriller Against Rosemount

The Thunderhawks will next face Gentry Academy in a consolation semifinal Friday at 10 a.m.

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Grand Rapids boys hockey team competed in their first state tournament since 2024 on Thursday afternoon, facing Rosemount in the AA quarterfinals.

Trailing 2-1 with under 30 seconds to go in the 3rd, Jameson Duell tipped in the game-tying goal to force overtime.

Then in overtime, heartbreak for Grand Rapids as Cade Sherman netted the game-winner, giving Rosemount the 3-2 overtime win.

Ander Rajala was the other goal-scorer for Grand Rapids.

The Thunderhawks will next face Gentry Academy in a consolation semifinal Friday at 10 a.m.
