A community baby shower was held in Superior
The Northwest Tobacco Free Coalition hosted a community baby shower for residents of Douglas County.
The event included free lunch, fun games, prizes, and presentations.
In addition, the coalition presented the latest data on prenatal smoking rates in Wisconsin. Pregnant and new moms were encouraged to attend and bring a partner or friend.
The coalition is a part of the Wisconsin tobacco prevention and control program.
Their work focuses on reducing the negative effects that tobacco has on communities.
Amanda Michaelson, Manager of Tobacco Programs, said “We want women to know that there are resources, there is support in the community. We find women smoking during pregnancy don’t necessarily have the support.”
They partner with community members and agencies throughout Douglas, Ashland, Bayfield, and Sawyer counties to provide education and resources.
