Lake Place Park to get new Name

New Signage Could go up in 2019

DULUTH, Minn. – Lake Place Park could be getting approval to be renamed during tonight’s council meeting.

The Duluth Indigenous Commission has asked the park to be named Gichi-ode’Akiing, which translates from Ojibwe to ‘Grand Heart Place.’

The commission says the name change will increase the visibility of native people, along with historic impact they’ve had on the community.

New signage could go up in 2019.
