Edwards Chosen as Duluth Fire Chief

Duluth Mayor Emily Larson chose Dennis Edwards as fire chief.

Just days after picking Mike Tusken as police chief, Duluth Mayor Emily Larson chose Dennis Edwards as fire chief.

On his 20th anniversary with the Duluth Fire Department, Dennis Edwards was named chief and will lead the department.

Ed wards has twenty-five years of firefighting experience. He has served in a variety of roles, everything from captain to assistant chief and now chief.

He said he wants the department to be progressive, yet will take input and listen to the community.

“We’ll have some challenges down the road, but I am confident we have an incredible staff to help me make those decisions. We’ll make them together,” said Edwards.

Edwards will guide a department with a budget of $14 million and staff of 140.

“He’s earned my confidence repeatedly throughout this process. I know it’s been long and I appreciate how you’ve been so trusting in how it has gone,” said Larson.

Larson added she appreciated Edwards’ vision for the department.

The leadership team of Duluth’s public safety department is now complete.  The city council will need to approve Larson’s decision on May 9..
