Bakeries See Drop in Sales at the Start of the New Year
Positively Bakery is just one business to fall victim to Winter trends.
DULUTH, Minn.- You may think the holidays and Winter weather would cause an increase in the purchase of baked goods. It’s quite the opposite at one Duluth bakery who says the new year is usually a difficult time for them.
Positively Bakery is opened year round but sees less than half the average daily sales during Winter months than during warmer months.
Workers say the decrease has to do with factors like people sticking to their healthy new year’s resolutions. and weather keeping them from getting to the store.
“A lot of it has to do with foot traffic. The smell that the bakery puts into the neighborhood actually brings in a lot of people and the weather kind of stymies that a little bit,” bakery employee Harley Roach said.
The bakery says they support new year’s resolutions to eat healthier foods but want to point out that their goods have locally sourced ingredients, are not processed and many of their options are vegan, meaning they’re already healthier than the baked goods you may find at the grocery store.
