Duluth Police Department has New Top Cop
Duluth native, Mike Tusken, is the city’s new Police Chief.
He was selected as one of two finalists in a hiring process that involved a community review panel, survey, meeting and a public forum.
Tusken has been serving as interim chief since Gordon Ramsay left. Ramsay took a Police Chief position in Wichita, Kansas in January.
Tusken brings more than 23 years of law enforcement experience, previously serving as Sergeant and Lieutenant.
Tusken was up against Brian Kozak, who is a Police Chief in Cheyenne, Wyoming and a Duluth native.
Mayor Emily Larson said “I’m very confident I made the right decision. I’m pleased we have a Police Chief with a passion and commitment to the city but also to our neighborhoods.”
Tusken wants to reduce crime, appoint more female leaders and reduce heroin crimes in the Duluth community.
Tusken said “This is a tremendous honor to be named chief in this department and this city. I truly have respect for this community and people in this room and for the people outside these windows.”
Tusken’s appointment will be presented to the Duluth city council for approval at their May 9th meeting.
