Victim Identified in Downtown Duluth Bus Incident
Victim is in Stable Condition
DULUTH, Minn.-The victim hit by a bus in downtown Duluth Saturday afternoon has been identified.
Duluth police say it is 72-year-old Mary Beth McDade of Two Harbors. Her condition is considered stable and she is conscious and alert.
It all happened at about 1 p.m. at Third Avenue West and Superior Street. When authorities arrived, they found McDade pinned under the bus.
The fire department was able to free her and she was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
DTA General Manager Phil Pumphrey did tell Fox 21 today that their buses do have “blind spots,” but would not say if the crosswalk light was red or green when the bus hit the victim in the crosswalk.
DTA management also told Fox 21 the bus was looked over for any mechanical failure, but has since been released from that investigation and is back in use. The driver of the bus, who has been with the DTA for two years, remains off duty.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
