Minntac Employees Called Back for Maintenance Work
U.S. Steel Calling Back Around 50 Employees in Mountain Iron
U.S. Steel is calling back some of its laid off workers in northern Minnesota.
According to a company spokesperson, they’ll be calling back about 50 employees at their Minntac mine in Mountain Iron.
They’ll be performing routine maintenance on the #5 agglomerator.
Its work they’d normally contract out but wanted to use their own people for.
The facility employs about 1,500 people but has had to lay off 400 employees.
The company wouldn’t comment on when the workers would be coming back or for how long.
