Superior, Police Defendants in Civil Rights Law Suit

Suit Filed in Douglas County Circuit Court Alleges Excessive Force

Nearly 18 months after the controversial arrest of a Superior woman, the police department and city have been named as defendants in a law suit.

Natasha N. Lancour is suing the three officers involved in her arrest, along with the city of Superior and its insurance company, Cities and Villages Mutual Insurance Company.

Lancour is listed as the primary plaintiff in the 31 page court filing, her husband and four children are also listed.

Superior Police Officer George C. Gothner, Jr., is the primary defendant, Sergeant William Lear and Officer Sean T. Holmgren are also listed as defendants.

The law suit was filed Monday by Superior attorney Richard Gondik, Jr., and alleges 22 tort, civil rights, and other perpetrated against his clients by the officers and city.

While Lancour and Gondik did not specify a monetary amount being sought, the suit does demand a jury trial and request that any damages be determined by that jury.

A special prosecutor was previously assigned to the case and did not file charges against the officers related to their actions in the January 5, 2014, incident.

According to the filing, the defendants will have 45 days to respond to the law suit.
