One Dead in Bayfield County Crash

One person was killed after their car left the road, struck several trees and rolled Monday morning in the Town of Bayfield. 

Authorities responded to the crash around 6:22 a.m. on County Highway J near Valley Road. 

When police arrived on scene, they found 26-year-old Sawyer Grooms seat-belted in the drivers seat of the overturned vehicle.  Police extricated him from the vehicle and initiated first aid.  Grooms was pronounced dead on scene. 

Authorities say it appears he was traveling northbound on County Road J and failed to negotiate a curve near the intersection of Valley Road.  His car left the road and struck several trees before coming to rest on its roof. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office.
