The construction of a $29.1 million hotel along Duluth’s waterfront is moving forward rapidly.
The Pier B Hotel and Restaurant will consist of a new 140 room hotel, waterfront restaurant, banquet center, outdoor seating area and more.
Now, instead of moving just blueprints, the project is making major leaps in its development process.
If anyone has been near the construction side, it’s clear the layout is quickly forming.
To some, it may look like a pile of concrete and dirt, but developers said it’s much more than that.
Developer Sandy Hoff says the hotel part is off and running.
The first floor is already on top of concrete blocks.
Crews are currently working on the transient marina part of development by hauling dredge material so the water depth is shallow enough for boat ramps and other amenities.
But, like any project, it has its challenges.
“There are many agencies we are working with. They’ve all been pretty good to work with and it’s like conducting a symphony to get it to all come together. But it’s exciting to see tangible progress happening now,” said Hoff.
Construction is expected to start on the new access bridge across from Bayfront Park.
If all goes as planned, the hotel and restaurant will be ready to open May 2016.
Developers will be holding an official groundbreaking ceremony at the beginning of July.
