Duluth State of the City Address

Mayor Larson wants to focus on jobs, housing, and sustainable energy,

After one hundred days in office, Duluth Mayor Emily Larson reflects on the state of the city

Mayor Larson has been busy with searches for a new police and fire chief and she’s also been trying to secure bonding money for the zoo and steam projects.

She says whatever challenges the city will face, they’ll move forward together.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to get started,” said Mayor Larson

That kind of attitude could best describe Mayor Larson’s first one hundred days in office.

“This vision didn’t come from the top floor of city hall. It came from your hard work and the dreams you have shared with me,” said Larson.

The mayor wants the city to lead by being and pointed towards efforts by the city to hire more women and minorities.

“There are deep divisions that still need healing and it’s clear that we’ll only move forward as a city when we move together,” said Larson.

She also mentioned successes like her city hall in the city talks that have brought the government and people together.

“I think Duluth is on a real positive track and Mayor Larson as well as the city council are going to ensure we stay on that positive track,” said city council president Zack Filipovich.

Only one hundred days in, but looking towards a bright future.

“We come to this challenge with strong foundations and gritty resilience. There is a different mood in Duluth today. One many of us haven’t felt in a long time. There’s a cautious optimism that we are on the mend and on the front foot moving forward,” said Larson.

A focus on inclusion and collaboration across all of Duluth.

“It was a fantastic speech,” said Filipovich.

The mayor said her top three priorities going forward are jobs, housing and sustainable energy.
