A K9 at the Superior Police Department is excited about his new wardrobe.
Vested Interest, a nationwide groupon campaign, provided more than 350 law enforcement dogs nationwide with the protective body armor.
“We’re very grateful for vested interest in K9s for getting behind such a wonderful cause and helping out law enforcement all around to provide that extra layer for K9s,” Superior Police Chief, Nick Alexander.
The campaign raised more than $335,000 for the vests.
Each vest costs nearly $2,000.
The vest is custom made to fit Marik and provide him with lightweight protection without limiting his mobility.
“It has ballistic and stab protections to it. It has to be cut and tailored very specifically for a K9 animal to allow for mobility and still protect the vital organs,” said Alexander.
Marik is just over 1 year old and has worn the vest for almost a week.
