Letter Carriers will bring food to local food banks Saturday, May 9th, as part of the 23rd Annual “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive.
All you have to do is set out your non-perishable food items and your carrier will collect the donations on their route.
With most school meal programs not available during summer months, millions of children will have to find alternate sources of nutrition.
“By filling up the food shelves now, we have that available for parents when their kids aren’t in school getting their school lunches, they will have food at home they will be able to get,” said National Letter Carrier’s President, Scott Dulas.
It’s a fitting weekend to help out the parents too.
“Because it’s Mother’s Day weekend, we are asking people to help other mothers. But, this is my favorite weekend to be out delivering mail.”
Last year, the Duluth-Superior area collected more than 125,000 lbs. of food for local shelves.
Over the last 23 years, 1 billion lbs. of food have been donated nation wide.
