School Board Meeting Determines Superintendent Final Candidates

The process continued to find Duluth Public Schools new superintendent.

DULUTH, Minn. – The process continued to find Duluth Public Schools new superintendent after current superintendent Bill Gronseth previously announced he will be leaving this summer.

The Duluth School Board has partnered with a consulting group to find a match for the superintendent position. During today’s meeting, the candidates were spoken about anonymously, specifically about their work experiences and their accomplishments.

School board members are looking for a candidate who is a strong collaborator, who has good communication skills along with someone who has cultural competency.

“You know, it’s a daunting task, and we’ve all taken it very seriously and we’ll continue to take it seriously. We have to keep making sure that we are ready to find the right candidate and work with them as a community,” said Jill Lofald, school board chair for Duluth Public Schools.

Two of the candidates were from Minnesota, one from Wisconsin, one from Maryland, one from North Carolina and one from Wyoming. All of the candidates were men.

The first interviews will be held on March 19th and 20th. Duluth Schools hope to have the new superintendent in office by July 1st.
