DULUTH, Minn. – And the Great Lakes Aquarium is celebrating its 20th anniversary by introducing 20 new things this year.

Along with new animals, there will also be new exhibits, new programs and new events.

Included in the newness is a North American opossum, which will be a feature animal in the origins exhibit. Socks the opossum was discovered orphaned and was born with no eyes.

“Kind of get the word out and let everybody know how important their animals are because they are native to Minnesota. A lot of people don’t get to see them very often because they are pretty nocturnal so it’s kind of rare so we’re really excited to have them here,” said Natalie Riemer, Senior Animal Care Specialist.

Along with a new animal, there will also be a new wetlands exhibit and an alligator arriving this summer.
