Roses Raised at Leif Ericson Park

Volunteers started raising about 1,800 roses at the Lakewalk Rose Garden.
The red beauties have been buried and tipped all winter long to keep them from harsh conditions.
With spring underway they can finally come up.
“Just spring in general is here and it’s nice to get outside,” said Joanne Highlan with the City of Duluth Park Maintenance. “We’ve had like really, really nice weather so it’s just perfect timing.”
After the roses are dug up the strings that binds them are cut and they’re hosed down with water.
The group will be raising the roses again next Tuesday from 3 p.m.-6.
You can still volunteer, just bring some work gloves.
